The Oracles of Water
Site Specific Performance in Delphi

Archaeological Site of Delphi, Greece

꧁ Why did ancient cultures consider water to be a living being?

꧁ How does water respond to music, sound and vibration?

꧁ Why is water so important for remembrance?

꧁ What can water teach us about ourselves and the world?

Description

"The Oracles of Water" is a ritualistic and participatory site-specific performance that connects climate change and the global water crisis with the mythical background and cult of Apollo in Delphi.

A young environmental scientist, after an ominous dream he sees about the future of the planet, in which all the springs dry up one by one, visits Delphi in search of receiving an oracle from Apollo about the future of water resources. From the immensity of the Delphic landscape and the Navel of the Earth, Pythia, Mnemosyne, and the Muses send a universal message about water.

Global warming and water pollution is the thread that connects Ancient Greek Wisdom, Science, Philosophy, Mythology, and the Performing Arts, in this unique performance directed and choreographed by internationally acclaimed Apostolia Papadamaki.

The show features famous artists such as Ms. Maria Papageorgiou, and Mr. Dimitris Gotsopoulos, a group of 9 female dancers, and an exquisite team of artistic collaborators.

The performance will be presented at the archaeological site of Delphi on July 31st (world premiere) and August 1st, and it is included in the program "All Of Greece One Culture 2023 and supported by the Ministry of Culture to 70% of its budget.

The artistic team envisions synergy with a company that shares the same values in a show that combines our cultural heritage, environmental protection - sustainability with contemporary domestic artistic creation.

The performance aims to awaken and inspire the audience to redefine their relationship with the element of Water, the source of life, but also with the element of the Sun, as well as to plant the seed for the union of man with Nature, in emotional and, by extension, in the material field.

The performance will explore the relationship between movement, music, and speech, highlighting the polysemy of the water element: Water is always present in conversation with eternity, as a universal symbol of purification, purity, and clarity. Through the ‘Oracles of Delphi', symbolically, water becomes a teacher that leads us to envision a sustainable future.

Apostolia Papadamaki's Story

Apostolia is a visionary multi-artist, creating a series of unique experiential performances, called Anamnesis and they are participatory with the audience. Presented in major archeological sacred sites of Greece and supported by various public organizations, these performances are a call to the soul to remember who we are and where we come from, honoring Ancestral Wisdom and the relationship between Humanity, Nature, and the Divine.
